Our Practice

Dr. Amos's journey began in Southeast Kentucky, where he was raised as an at-risk youth. He didn't know that label then, but he recognized it later in life, inspiring him to give back to other young people. As a young person, he witnessed firsthand the impact of addiction and mental illness on individuals and the family unity. Driven by an educator's powerful words, "the sky is the limit," and his faith, he created a new story for himself and dedicated his life to helping others.

His unique background gives him a deep, firsthand understanding of how addiction and mental illness can impact people. This experience taught him a core principle: everyone, no matter their situation, deserves respect and the chance to build a better life. Dr. Amos believes that people need more than a handout; they need the skills and tools to manage their lives and create their own independence. Dr. Amos applied these same principles to his own life. Despite being in poverty and being told he was destined for the coal mines rather than college, he became the first in his family to graduate from college, going on to earn two master's degrees and a Ph.D.

This philosophy, inspired by John Wesley's "teach a man to fish" principle, guides everything we do at ForgePoint Therapeutic Services. We won't "fix" your problems, but we will provide you with a listening ear and the professional support you need to navigate your journey.

Your story matters here. Let us be a part of a short chapter in your life, helping you write a future you're proud of.

About Dr. Amos

Hello, I'm Dr. Marvin Amos, and I’m a therapist with a deep passion for helping people heal and grow. My approach to therapy is both eclectic and strength-based. I believe in empowering people to use their personal strengths to achieve their goals. In all things, I believe in moving forward in a way that protects people’s dignity, respect, and independence.

I have experience in clinical mental health care and trauma-informed care. My work as a therapist includes individual, family, and group therapy sessions, as well as crisis management and behavior modification. I’ve also been trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), DBT, EMDR, ACT, and more. I hold a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration and a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling , which led to my licensure as an LPC-MHSP in Tennessee. I am certified as a Forensic Evaluator by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. Most recently, I obtained certification to provide psychosocial evaluations, immigration evaluations, and I am preparing do to more work for family court to help reunify children with their parents.

I have a unique experience with foster care and adoption services and provide support to an amazing group of teens at Smoky Mountain Children’s Home in Sevierville, TN., a Church of God ministry. I encourage you to donate to them here (https://smch.org/donate/) or sign up to be a foster parent/employee (https://smch.org/careers/)! Tell them Dr. Marvin sent you.

Beyond my professional experience is my first calling, to serve my wife and children. I am by far more accomplished because of my amazing wife, Hannah Amos, and my children than any other professional degree. Chickens are my therapy animal and I love being outdoors. In all things, I follow my story, charted by my savior, Jesus Christ.

When serving people in a clinical setting, I remain nonjudgmental. I believe meeting the person where they are in recovery. While I have unique experiences as a person, your story is more important when we are together.

Blessings!
